#BTreviews : Christmas dinner in @canteenatthemac

It’s the ultimate pre theatre dinner venue, you can’t actually get any closer to the shows when you eat at the Canteen at the Mac. So when it comes to location it’s perfect.

Last Friday night we popped along to the Canteen at the Mac to try out their Christmas menu. Their new seasonal menu offers a 3 course Christmas Dinner for £25.

The restaurant in the foyer area of the Mac is big and spacious, the tables are all widely spaced out and there is a row of booths tucked away in a secluded area along the back wall. We do like a bit of space around us when we’re out for dinner!

Anytime we’ve been the team are always helpful and accommodating. We called in one night in a rush, and literally just wanted a quick burger before a show and they managed to squeeze us in and take our order and bring our food in extra quick time. You couldn’t want for better customer care.

On this occasion, we tucked in to our 3 course Christmas Dinner (the first of the season) and started it all off with the Curried Parsnip soup, followed by a superb Turkey Roulade with chunky chips and duck fat cooked roasties, then finished off with a Canteen Knickerbocker Glory.

The soup was delicious with just enough of a curry kick. It was the soup of the day, so if you go to the Canteen, there may be something else on offer. Our Turkey Roulade was definitely a great choice, with pork and sage stuffing and wrapped in parma ham, with carrot puree, buttered greens and potato galette. It was great to have the Christmas menu instead of the regular menu, as it forced us to try something different in the Canteen rather than our normal burger option.

As always the team were charming, and our waitress for the evening was just quintessentially local and an absolute pleasure!

The Mac is a super venue and addition to Belfast, but having an equally good restaurant to dine and relax in, certainly makes for a worthwhile visit to this particular corner of the Cathedral Quarter.

The Canteen have some great Christmas party options at the minute, including their Ultimate Christmas Party Offer: a ticket to Pony Panto, 3 course meal in Canteen and a cocktail on arrival – all for just £35 per person.
