The first days of Belfast Restaurant Week

Belfast Restaurant Week got off to a fantastic start on Saturday in St Georges Market with the Battle of the Chefs.

Three local chefs – David Scott, SHU Restaurant; Bruno Etienne, The Academy Restaurant; and Ray Malcolmson, St George’s Market Bar and Grill, battled it out in a cook off to produce a family meal from quality, locally sourced produce.

Chef David Scott from SHU Restaurant on the Lisburn Road picked up the Family Dining Champion title with his delicious oven baked Irish cod served with fresh chilli parsley, Roosevelt potatoes and Gavin Fraser’s purple sprouting broccoli.

That’s not the only great news for SHU this week, as they have been judged, the ‘Best Restaurant in Northern Ireland’ at the London National Restaurant Awards.

Both Shu and Mourne Seafood, Belfast, were judged to be amongst the Top 100 restaurants in the UK, quite the scoop.

Both restaurants are taking part in Belfast Restaurant Week, an initiative designed to showcase the wealth of quality dining experiences Belfast has to offer.

Last night, SHU, as part of Belfast Restaurant Week, hosted a 50 Shades of Wine event, our roving reporter said the food and wine were delicious.

Earlier yesterday afternoon we were invited to the City Hall, where we met the charming Charles Campion as he delivered a humorous and insightful presentation about food and being a critic, and his love of good simple tasty food preferably served on a plain round plate, without being decorated by chives!
