Best Foot Forward for Aware’s Slieve Donard Trek

To coincide with the internationally recognised World Mental Health Day, leading depression charity, Aware is asking the public to raise awareness of this date by taking part in a Slieve Donard Trek on Saturday 10 October.

This local charity, that works exclusively for those with depression is hoping that at least 100 people will sign up to the trek in a bid to raise more than £10,000. The money raised from the fundraising efforts will go towards Aware providing support and services for the one in four people across Northern Ireland who suffer from depression.

Teresa Sloan of Aware said, “Slieve Donard is one of our most iconic mountain treks and we chose it because we wanted something that would appeal to both seasoned climbers, as well as first timers wanting to achieve new goals. In a broader sense I guess climbing a mountain does symbolise the personal challenge many of our service users have in dealing with mental illness. We encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the Slieve Donard Trek as every penny raised will go directly to help local people directly suffering with depression”

Participants can register for fundraising packs at or by calling 02890 357820.
