Northern Ireland’s first and only competitive roller derby team, the Belfast Banshees will be taking on Limerick Roller Girls in the aptly named bout Full Metal Jammer on Saturday, September 28.
Whatsmore, BRD’s B team The Norn Iron Maidens will also have their first outing when they take on Limerick’s B team so you will get to see two bouts for the price of one.
There will be roller skates, adrenaline and drama in the Valley Leisure Centre and if you have never watched a Roller Derby bout before, now is the perfect chance.
To simplify it, roller derby is a full contact sport played on roller skaters on a flat track. The two teams are made up of one jammer and four blockers. Jammers are the point scorers and blockers are tasked with stopping the jammer by any legal means possible.
Doors open at 6pm and the first whistle is 7pm. Tickets are £5 in advance or £7 at the door.
It isn’t a myth that roller girls know how to party and once you have watched the bout you can come celebrate with them afterwards in the Hudson Bar on Gresham Street. Entry is £5 or free with your bout wristband.
