Belfast Mela will open with a spectacular free evening show today (Saturday 24th August) when world-renowned outdoor theatre company Walk The Plank, celebrated for their visual artistry and talent for gigantic-scale outdoor spectacle, team up with ArtsEkta’s own South Asian Dance Academy for an evening re-telling of the epic legend of Rama and Sita, using dance, fireworks and a twelve-foot high flaming puppet!
On Sunday, from 12 noon to 6pm, Belfast’s mega Mela will fill Botanic Gardens with a dazzling, high octane line up of music, dance, food, fashion, street theatre, circus and carnival from around the globe.
The iconic Parade of Cultures will launch the glorious day, weaving its way around World Stage, Showcase Stage, Culture Land, Maharaja Tent, World Food Market, The Taste The World Cookery Theatre, Health & Sports Zones and Street Mela.
Rolling out the welcome to the city’s favourite party, Mukesh Sharma said, ‘Eat … sing … dance … play … shop …celebrate …learn … laugh … we’re inviting everyone to come along and do it all, global style. It’s a wonderful world and, over the August Bank Holiday, it’s all waiting for you at Botanic Gardens!’
Admission on the day: Family £15, Adults £5, Concession £4.
Tickets for the evening of Saturday 24th August are free but limited and must be booked in advance, although they may already be all gone, but it’s worth trying isn’t it?!
