This is huge news for Belfast and is sure to be a hugely eventful and exciting weekend for the city, not forgetting it is guaranteed to bring in millions of pounds for the local economy.
Any concert or event always brings in the crowds to the city, but the MTV Europe Music awards are huge news. So get your accommodation booked and get involved in the city activities on the 6th November 2011 at the Odyssey Arena. There will be so many music stars in the city that weekend the atmosphere is sure to be electric. With new albums from both Britney and Gaga this Spring, surely one of them will be here collecting awards.
This is a fantastic achievement for Belfast City Council to have won the bid to host what is easily the biggest event in the European Music calendar. Perhaps the success of the recent Mark Ronson MTV special at the Waterfront Hall helped scoop it.
When the MTV Europe Music Awards were held in Edinburgh in 2003 the return on investment was £11.9 for every £1, and in Copenhagen in 2006 the return was £8.13 for each pound. Edinburgh, Stockholm, Barcelona, Rome, Dublin, Munich, Copenhagen and Liverpool have also held the awards in previous years.
So get organised, as hotels are already selling out fast in the city. Belfast Times have their room booked already; next stop is to get tickets for the event.
