The season of mellow fruitfulness is marked not just by the changing scenery and atmosphere in local parks but by the annual jamboree in Botanic Gardens and this year the seasonal rhythm is being reinforced with a mix of jazz and blues on Saturday, (14 September) and a Grand Finale Band Concert on Sunday (15 September).
A tented village will house prize winning blooms aswell as exhibits of enormous vegetables and other crops from local allotments, gardens, greenhouses, beehives and wine cellars.
Visit a variety of stalls selling local foods, plants, crafts, jewellery and more, but the emphasis will be on free family friendly activities including crafty workshops, street theatre, facepainting, balloon modelling, a climbing wall, bungee trampolining and zorbing balls.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir said: “It’s going to be a great weekend with so many attractions and the beauty of it is, whether you want to participate in activities, buy an unusual gift or plant or just people watch you will be able to do it all in one of our most attractive parks.
“People of all ages can find something to enjoy and there is always the chance to visit the Palm House and the Tropical Ravine.
“Local bands are only adding to the atmosphere with Paradiso Duo and Riviera Swing playing jazz and blues playing between 12.30pm and 5.30pm on Saturday and the Grand Finale Band Contest between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday.
We want as many people as possible to come along, get out, get a bit of fresh air and have some fun.”
