#beautybitch – Who’s the daddy?

This week, in celebration of Father’s Day, I decided to hand over the #beautybitch reins to, well, my beauty boy (I was going to call him something else but it was so much harsher than bitch!), AKA my colleague Chris Wilson.

Here is his guide to the ultimate Father’s Day pamper treats for dads, husbands, partners and all sorts…

It’s no surprise to many that men these days love to be pampered – am I right or am I right? If you haven’t already caught them testing out your new moisturiser or found your tweezers at their side of the vanity mirror, then it’s time to take a closer look!

We are, after all, living in a time of metrosexual males, and let’s face it, if it’s good enough for David Beckham it’s certainly good enough for us. So although your guy might not bend it like Beckham, nor look like him (Cathy Martin’s not the only beauty “bitch” around here) it’s only fair you at least let him try.

Starting with the basics; is it dry skin or an oily complexion that’s his problem? Then it’s time to turn your fella’s hand to the LAB series products. With formulas powered by technology, backed by scientific research, and reinforced by years of success in addressing men’s skincare and grooming needs there’s something for everyone from this brand. If your guy’s a gym-goer then I’d recommend the High Tech Sports Kit as the perfect gym bag accessory featuring an invigorating face scrub, an antiperspirant deodorant roll and a handy towel – what more will he need? Top tip: Order online by 10 June for free delivery.

If your man’s anything like me, then fragrance is a focus factor; so let’s make sure he smells good! Personally I’m a massive fan of woody aromas so one sniff of the latest Michael Kors Extreme Blue and I was an instant addict. With base notes of bergamot, cardamom and angelica seed, it’s undeniably masculine, and has a distinct woody aroma that lingers from dusk til dawn. Plus the super-sleek glass bottle with block silver lid will sit prettily on your dressing table, perfect to steer him away from your products if he’s a bit of a magpie?

Sticking with smells who else can agree that Lush is a spot of serious smell sensations? A beauty basic for guys (and girls!) is a good moisturiser and Lush nailed this beauty essential with its Smuggler’s Soul multi-purpose cream. With ingredients like cooling cucumber and argan oil this product seeps through the layers of the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth – and remember a good routine prevents everything from blackheads to breakouts.

Moving from skincare to hair care to make sure to cover all beauty bases… Personally I’ve always been a massive fan of the Label M range, so you could imagine my excitement with the release of their exclusive Label Men range. The first product I had to try out was the Sculpting Pommade, a water-based product designed to control movement and hold hair without weighing it down and keeping that slick wet look at bay, there’s a reason Beckham left that look in the 90’s! Let’s just say these guys have scored the winning goal for me as this product lets you mould, sculpt and experiment to create your desired hair style, achieving a sleek style with a matt finish and natural shine.

We can’t finish up without a quick nod to the local grooming experts at Jason Shankey – and a quick dash into the stores on Lisburn Road, House of Fraser or at Ballyhackamore will stock up your parent or partner’s bathroom cabinet for Father’s Day in one fell swoop. Gift cards for shaves, massages and even haircuts or restyles make for easy card-sized presents if you just cant quite make a decision on skin type or specific hair needs.

So from top to toe there’s the DL on some of my favourite products on the market right now, nothing too “Posh” and perfect for pampering Papa!
