An Autumn of comedy

Comedians are having a bumper Autumn in Belfast this year and tickets are selling out fast. Belfast is particularly partial to comedy shows and I remember the days when Billy Connolly toured and he was the only comedian who could sell out within minutes of going on sale, but this seems normal for most comedians these days.
Comedy venues used to be the Ulster Hall or the Grand Opera House but they have moved on to bigger things, although I’m not entirely sure the Odyssey Arena is the best venue to see any comedy act. That’s my own personal opinion and I seem to have it in my head that a comedy show should be a bit more up close and personal, like in the Opera House or at a push, the Waterfront.
The rest of the city doesn’t seem to agree though as the Odyssey Arena has more comedians in one season than ever before this Autumn. Amongst the biggest acts coming is Alan Carr on the 17/18 October with tickets on sale now.
So here’s the line up for your side splitting Autumn 2011 and this list is just between the Waterfront and the Odyssey.

Odyssey Arena
17/18 October Alan Carr
28/29 October Lee Evans
21 November Jason Manford
2 December Bill Bailey

Waterfront Hall
9 November Jason Byrne
26 November Sarah Millican

Looks like next Autumn could be gearing up to be busy as Michael McIntyre comes to the Odyssey Arena in 2012 and the tickets for this go on sale this Thursday 31st March at 9am with some Presale tickets already available. Nothing like planning a tour well in advance eh!
