After slaying Giants, Stars look to tame Tigers

This Sunday the Belfast Northstars ‘A’ team try to follow the lead set by their ‘B’ team counterparts as they open their 2014 Baseball Ireland season.
Last week the ‘B’ Northstars defeated the newly formed Ashbourne Giants 11-1 and 16-10 on the back of dominant pitching by Mark Smith and patient at bats. The ‘B’ team will be looking to go one better than last season, having finished second in their league and losing in the playoff finals. An injection of talented youth in the form of David Mundarain, Alexander Barboza and Klevier Sanchez has already shown signs that this is only too possible.

This weekend another team in its rookie season, the Dublin Tigers, are welcomed to Henry Jones Field in Castlereagh for a double header as teams jostle for position in the early days of the season.

Coach Jon Carter will hope that pitching and solid defense will be able to stymie what is likely to be a potent Tigers offense. The Stars will look to counter with veteran savvy and the addition of new catcher Darwin Sanchez in the lineup.

The first game starts at 11:30 on Sunday, the second at 14:00. For more details check out ‘Belfast Northstars Baseball’ facebook page or the team twitter feed @NorthstarsBB.
