The Mariners (1-2) should prove a tough test at this very early stage of the season; their lone win coming against the Tigers and their two losses against perennial Baseball Ireland contenders, the Hurricanes and the Spartans.
This weekend should see the first start in a Stars jersey for catcher Chris Smith, from Washington state. The club has been very impressed with Chris’ energy and drive since he joined the team in December having attended the team’s open practice at the Lagan Valley Leisure Centre; we’re confident that he can be a true asset to the team on both sides of the ball.
Having generated fifteen runs in the two games against the Tigers (despite leaving numerous runners on base), we’re confident that there’s plenty of run support to be given to the team’s pitching staff as they try to shut down Leo Farrell and an always-aggressive Mariners running game.
After a two week layoff, a tight, disciplined defence is what is required as the ‘A’ team fight to get back to .500.
