A short break at the Causeway Hotel

The Causeway Hotel stands at the top of the world heritage site, the Giant’s Causeway on the Causeway Coastal route and overlooking the area of outstanding natural beauty.

The Causeway Hotel and adjoining Giant’s Causeway, are in the hands of the National Trust. The hotel is a gem on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, famous for its awesome location and is packed out during the busy summer season.

What few people realise is that the hotel and causeway look even better in the winter months, the area suits the drama of a good winter storm and rough seas! Adding to the wintery weather, at Christmas the hotel is adorned with a number of fabulous Christmas trees, holly wreaths, and Christmas decor which add a touch of magic to its already comfortable and cosy atmosphere. It’s a delight!

This winter they are running a super two night deal of £109 for two people, for two nights with breakfast between a Sunday and Thursday, and FREE admission to Giant’s Causeway. So that meant it was time for a pre Christmas treat.

Once we’d checked in and settled in with a cosy afternoon pot of tea, we walked down to the Causeway to find the Giant.

He’s in hibernation at the minute…

Watch this..

Of course, we tried up wake him up during our early evening walk, but he didn’t stir.

Then it was time for Christmas dinner. The team at the hotel, and the food are always perfect. It’s good wholesome hearty food, with no scrimping on portion sizes.

There’s nothing better after a hearty meal than to relax in the cosy Christmassy bar surrounded by Christmas decorations. The trees twinkled and the festive tunes played softly in the background as we snuggled up on the large comfy chairs with something warm to drink.

Well fed, relaxed and cosy, surrounded by a classic Victorian Christmas as the wind whipped up a frenzy outside just a week before Christmas, it doesn’t get much better!!!

The following morning after a large and delicious breakfast it was time to try and wake up Finn McCool again. A brisk walk down the hill to the famous rocks of the causeway, the winds from the previous night had whipped up the sea and as always the area comes alive with the sights and sounds of crashing waves against the hexagonal rocks. It’s an amazing and beautiful world class sight to see. It’s less busy than the summer months and for me, it’s the best time of year to visit. So make sure you check out their great winter offer and treat yourself to a cosy retreat with super food and awesome views and walks right on its doorstep.
