A City and Beach break to Malaga with Jet2

A City and Beach break to Malaga with Jet2

Travelling has always been a great passion for me and in recent years I’ve caught the cruising bug, but getting invited along to Malaga for a 4 night trip with Jet2 may have made me want to go travelling on land for a change.

It couldn’t be easier to get to with less than a three hour Jet2 flight from Belfast International Airport direct to the sun.

Malaga has gone through a bit of a transformation in recent years and after our 2 nights in the city we discovered it’s definitely one to add to your city break travel list.

Malaga promenade

The transfer in to Malaga from the airport was easy and quick and we checked in to the Hotel MS Maestranza, with the beach at one end of the road and the City centre at the other. A typical taxi transfer is around €25 and takes less than 30 minutes.

Just minutes walk from the Hotel MS Maestranza is the new promenade with a great selection of restaurants, bars and shops. And not forgetting the awesome Pompidou Centre. If you like modern art or just fancy experiencing something new, the Pompidou was superb and I could’ve easily spent a lot more time browsing and enjoying the creativity, vision and inspiring work within the galleries.

Another gallery in Malaga is the Picasso museum. Packed full of Picasso art on loan from his family, this museum is well worth a visit, but I’d recommend getting a guided tour as you’ll learn so much more about his work and gain a greater appreciation of this iconic artist. And did I buy a Picasso print in the shop at the end of the tour? Of course I did!! Everyone bought something!

Elsewhere in the city you’ll find great bars, cafes, restaurants and of course the city break staple, shopping opportunities. But there’s a lot of history surrounding the city, so it’s worth checking out if you can get a walking tour of the city from one of the many local guides. The tourist information office can help out with guides and sightseeing tips. www.malagaturismo.com/en

If it’s a beach break you’d love, there’s a beach just a few minutes walk from the end of the promenade. You wouldn’t believe the city centre was about 20 minutes walk away when you’re relaxing on the beach and watching the waves splash onto the sand and taking in all the sights and sounds of beach life.

After 2 nights in Malaga we headed along the coast to another very special hotel and beach location. Check out Belfast Times tomorrow for all the biz about part two of our trip.
